Department of Energy Resources Engineering

Graduate Admissions

In this section:

We admit students on the basis of their academic achievements, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, work experience and Graduate Records Examination (GRE) scores. There are no minimum grade point averages or GRE scores: the admissions committee reviews each application carefully to determine the overall demonstrated and potential ability.

Application Deadline

The official application deadline for entry to the Department in the Fall quarter of 2007-08 is January 31, 2007. We only consider applications submitted by this time, typically for enrollment in the following September.

Application Procedure

Prospective Undergraduate Applicants should visit the Stanford Undergraduate Admissions for information and to request an application.

Prospective Graduate Applicants should visit Stanford Graduate Admissions for information and to request an application. You should also submit our Potential Grad Student Survey.

Specific information on the course of study for all undergraduate and graduate programs offered by the Department of Energy Resources Engineering can be found on this website, as well as in the Stanford Registrar's Bulletin (Energy Resources Engineering can be found within the School of Earth Sciences section).

Note: Stanford University prefers to receive applications on-line. Paper applications are available for an additional $20 and will be mailed upon request only after payment has been received. For more information contact Graduate Admissions via email at grad admissions@stanford.edu

GRE and TOEFL
Be sure to schedule your GRE and TOEFL (if needed) exam dates to give you enough time to meet the application deadline. The GRE exam is required of all applicants, while the TOEFL is required of most international applicants whose first language is not English. You can check the Graduate Admissions FAQ for more information. There can be no substitutions for these two exams.

GRE scores can be no older than 5 years prior to your application. Strong quantitative skills are essential for successful completion of all programs, therefore the admissions committee expects a high quantitative score.

TOEFL scores must be no older than 18 months prior to your application. A TOEFL score of at least 575 is necessary for M.S. applicants, 600 or better for Ph.D. applicants. The TOEFL is waived for applicants who have recently completed two or more years of study in an English-speaking country.

If you have any questions, please contact our Student Services Administrator.
