Departmental Mission Statement

The mission of the Petroleum Engineering Department at Stanford University is to serve the international petroleum and related industries through the development of both people and tools for reservoir management. This is accomplished through focused research programs that take advantage of the strengths of not only the Petroleum Engineering Department but also other related programs within and outside the School of Earth Sciences at Stanford. We train our engineers for leadership roles in the ever changing oil, gas and geothermal industries. Many have also found this training to be excellent for understanding contaminant transport in aquifers and are working for environmental engineering companies.
